Where the idea began.
I’m Maria, founder and practitioner behind Scalp Studio.
After beginning my career as a hairdressing apprentice in Co. Kildare, Ireland, I quickly noticed a gap. There was little focus on scalp health or intentional head massage.
At 22, I moved to Australia alone and rebuilt my life. While working in a high-stress role, my health declined, and I began experiencing weekly migraines and poor sleep. Head massage became my only real relief, sparking a deeper interest in its therapeutic benefits.
Seeing a lack of specialised treatments on the Sunshine Coast, I pursued further training in holistic scalp care and advanced massage techniques.
Today, I offer treatments designed to support deep relaxation, stress relief, improved sleep, and nervous system recovery—creating space for true rest and wellbeing.
Benifits of Head Massage
Dry head massage is a restorative, touch-based treatment that allows the body to slow down and feel safe enough to rest.
Through gentle, intentional stimulation, this practice activates the vagus nerve supporting the parasympathetic “rest and digest” state and helping shift the body out of fight-or-flight.
As the mind quiets and the body enters deep relaxation, this state of calm also supports overall gut and digestive health, as the vagus nerve connects the brain to the digestive system.
By nurturing this pathway, the treatment helps restore balance to both mind and body.
What began as a passion project has grown into something truly meaningful, and I’m incredibly proud of how far it has come.
